One variation has only the team nickname decaled on the base with a blank chest and the other has the team name on the chest and the city name on the base. Neither is harder but the two name, as this one has, is far more desirable. The 8 teams in this league, were as follows: Boston Patriots, Bullalo Bills, Dallas Texans, Denver Broncos, Houston Oilers, New York Titans, Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers. As always, I checked this guy out closely with my light up magnifying glass and he is absolutely perfectly, as nice as you will ever find. Anyway, this rare and extremely difficult New York Titan is mint, and has vibrant beautiful colors. He too is as nice as it's gonna get. This AFL set is one of the more popular of all the nodder sets and my personal favorite by far. The Dallas Texan, part of this set, is perhaps the most beautiful of all the nodders ever made but the Titans, is one of the toughest.
In all my life, this is the first Titan that I have even owned and I've only even seen a few in real life. He has also been is a safety deposit box for the past 50 plus years. He's original and had no restorations or work done on him whatsoever. You simply won't find a nicer one then him.
I liked that idea and started doing it to all mine. So if you see the white inside the head, understand that it's simply cotton to keep it from knocking, cracking or chipping. As I said before, most all of these came out of a variety store that went out of business. A gentleman, very young at the time, bought their entire inventory of 1500 nodders. They've been stored away safely for a long time and now they are his retirement package.
Thank you to all who have written or sent pictures of your own rare nodders and collections. I love looking at them as well as owning them. The nodder collecting world is very similar to the bottom of the ocean. We simply don't know all that is out there but every now and then, something new and exciting comes to light. So please keep sharing those stories and pictures of the "white whale nodders" that you've seen or heard about.
I truly do enjoy them. There are lots of variations out there that aren't documented by a price guide as of yet. Perhaps they will be or perhaps not?
The Oriole mini version of the boy face, has a smile and not an open mouth. I only know of possibly one others like him to exist. I've also posted a picture of our last suprising find. In this same collection of close to 1,500 old nodders, we found two mini football, Dallas Cowboys and LA Rams. Neither is even as tall as my mini Oriole.I've never seen anything like these either and I have no idea what the heck they are? If anyone out there can shed some light on it or send a picture of some that you might have, I'd greatly appreciate it. I won't list them just yet as I'm not sure if this is a one of a kind item or a mistake. They are paper mache and one has the same old stickers on the bottom which leads me that they were a trial or experiment, but real never the less. Regardless, this has never been touched up or changed in any way and it is original whether the authors of the price guides have seen or are aware of its existence.
Hell I can't ever fixed a cracked one. I also picked up a Baltimore Oriole Black Face nodder, it also has it's own box and is also mint. I'll be listing non stop on here all week long. The price guide claims that there are only 6 known. This is simply not the case but it is indeed the rarest of all the nodders.
It is the Honus Wagner of the bobbin head world. The New York Yankee is the second most rare.
Tim Hunter states in his price guide that he's never ever seen a Mint Yankee. Also pictured in this ad are the other a few of the other nodders currently for sale. We have tons of high end pieces that we'll be listing in the near future and this one will also follow suit. The DENVER SUPPLY Co was founded in 1915.
From automobiles to cell phones and computers. Here's a sampling of some of those items: full range of antiques as well as antique toys, some from the 40s and still in their original boxes, Longaberger baskets, Ned Foltz redware pottery, autographs and memorabilia, baseball, football and non sports cards , bobbin heads and nodders, Titanic Memorabilia and autographs, a huge and beautiful redware clay Santa Clause. I also picked up an Oriole mini, which several people were asking and finally he decided that he wanted to sell him to contribute to his retirement. He is considerably tougher and far more expensive. He is the toughest of all the minis.
The world of nodders is so fascinating because different variations and types keep coming to light. We simply don't know everything that's out there. The Oriole has a different smile then the one documented in the price guide. But since listing him, one other gentleman informed me that he had the same thing and even sent a picture. So there may be several more floating around. I have also picked up 2 football nodders, Rams and Dallas Cowboys that I've NEVER seen before. Both are paper mache, have the same Japan sticker on the bottom and considerably smaller then my mini Oriole. I have no idea what they are but if anyone has any info, or has one like them, I'd love to hear from you. I imagine that I'll be listing them in the future but for now I'll simply do some research. I also just recently picked up 2 Black Faced baseball nodders.
Both are Gem Mint and come with their original boxes. One is a Philadelphia Phillies and one is a Baltimore Oriole. Muscle Cars Card set, Amish Heritage Sets and much much more.
Thank you again for watching and please make the DENVER SUPPLY one of your favorite vendors so you can readily and frequently drop by. Thank you again for your interest and your questions. Some sports, some non, but all old and absolutely fascinating.
The picture of the Large Pittsburgh Steeler Promo doll is not mine nor is it for sale. The gentleman that owns him was kind enough to allow me the privilege of using him in my ads, for the sole purpose of drumming up some interest and striving for information about what's out there and the numbers that may be available.
Rather, they were given out to vendors of the bobbin heads as a form of adverstising. He simply laughed and said, Not for sale Barry!
